What is Cold (low -level) Class IV Laser Therapy?

Laser therapy may sound a bit intimidating, but it’s painless, safe, and fast-working. We use a low-level laser, sometimes called a cold laser treatment or LLLT (low-level laser therapy). The laser uses low-frequency light to generate healing and comfort.

The process is very easy: We’ll protect any necessary areas of the body and point the light from the hand-held device over the impacted areas. The device emits laser energy into the skin, penetrating two to five centimeters below the skin to reach the tissues in need.

The treatment may provide a soothing, warm sensation on the skin as the laser is placed over the affected area for between 30 seconds to several minutes.

Benefits of receiving laser therapy at our Gainesville chiropractic clinic include:

  • Reduced swelling and inflammation
  • Quicker healing time
  • Improved muscle mobility and range of motion
  • Improved circulation
  • Improved joint flexibility and movement patterns
  • Improved comfort
  • Reduced muscles spams
  • Stimulates soft tissue regeneration and bone repair

“Alicia and her caring staff got me back on my feet within just 2 visits. What a relief to be able to stand up straight and walk normally again! Totally recommend the laser treatments! Brought our son in to get help with a minor back injury and he’s now back to participating in PE…very happy with our experience here!”

“I have had my fair share of back pain limiting my walking and daily activities. I have degenerative disc disease and a history of receiving facet joint injections. I have never had relief this FAST! Usually it takes 1-2 weeks to be able to stand up straight and after just 2 days (visits back to back) I am standing up with significant pain relief. I’m hopeful that chiropractic care with Dr. Haupt will prevent me from needing surgical intervention again. The techniques she performed paired with the k laser therapy were amazing. I will refer everyone with back pain to go see her!”

How Does Laser Therapy Work?

Our laser emits red and near-infrared light over damaged tissues. This pushes photons through the skin so they can reach the cells, enabling circulation that carries healthy blood, oxygen, and nutrients to the injury.

Does Laser Therapy Hurt? What Does Laser Therapy Feel Like?

Laser therapy is painless and often provides little to no sensation. Occasionally, patients feel slight warmth or tingling where the laser is emitting light; however, the sensations are no cause for alarm.

After receiving laser therapy, patients may feel some sensitivity in the areas addressed, which usually lasts no more than 24 hours after the session. The sensitivity is not significant enough to cause discomfort, but more of an awareness of the area.

Laser therapy is so gentle that we’ve used it on our most vulnerable patients, including prenatal, pediatric, and senior patients.

What are the Side Effects of Laser Therapy?

Very few side effects related to laser therapy have been reported. This method of treatment has been used by healthcare professionals worldwide for over two decades, helping to reduce both acute and chronic conditions.

While some will experience minimal sensitivity post-treatment, this response is due to the healing process and will not affect your everyday routine.

How Long Until I Feel Results from Laser Therapy Treatment?

Many patients feel improvement at some level after their very first laser therapy treatment. This can be in the form of improved motion, comfort, and reduced restrictions. However, every patient and injury is different, and it may take several sessions to get the results you’re looking for.

If a longer process is needed for your unique condition, don’t get discouraged. It doesn’t mean your injury isn’t healing; it only means the condition is heightened and needs more time. Laser treatments are cumulative, working to get you better each time.
